About Connection Manager

Connection Manager (CM) is a M?crosöft product that will provide you with a customized RAS client for corpnet access.  ITG has built a profile which will provide the following features for MS corporate RAS users:

·          Minimal Installation Hassle - The installable .exe file is less then 1MB for fast downloading.  It installs quickly and requires no reboot in most cases.

·          No Connection Configuration - Connection Manager checks to make sure that all RAS components are installed and initiates installation if necessary.  Connection Manager also sets up RAS connection configuration automatically for all connections.

·          All RAS and VPN numbers are available locally on your PC - Connection Manager comes with an onboard phonebook that includes available direct dial-up and Virtual Private Networking (VPN) numbers.  Every time you connect, the list of available numbers is dynamically updated.

·          Customized Help - ITG has created a custom help file for the ITG Connection Manager profile.  Just open Connection Manager and click the help button to get help that is specific to MS corporate RAS users.

·          Single Logon for VPN - You don't need an individual internet account to make a VPN connection with Connection Manager.  Connection Manager allows you to use your corporate logon to gain access to the internet.  The cost is billed back to M?crosöft.  Because you use the same logon for the internet and for the VPN server, you only need to enter it once.

·          Only Selected ISPs are used - When you use the "Dial-up" Connection Manager profile to make a VPN connection, you are dialing into a supported ISP.  Supported ISPs provide less latency for your connections.  This is important as some ISPs may force you to connect through congestion points.

·          Broadband Support - There is a "Broadband" Connection Manager profile that can be used for North American-based RAS via the user's broadband access (xDSL, cable modem, etc.)

Installation

Go to http://itgweb/ras/cm and click on  "How to Install CM".  You can download or run the installable .exe file to setup the ITG Connection Manager Profile.  This is the newest ITG Connection Manager profile.  If you already use Connection Manager, please install this new profile.

Installation Notes:

·          This is the newest ITG Connection Manager profile.  Please uninstall any older Connection Manager profiles that you are currently using.  Directions for uninstalling the Connection Manager profile are at http://itgweb/ras/cm (click on  "How to Install CM", step #2)

·          ITG will be adding new features and functionality to the ITG Connection Manager profiles over time. Check back on http://itgweb/ras/cm to install updated profiles or obtain information on any new known issues.

·          If you are using Windows 2000, it will be important to be running the latest major release (currently RC 2) and to continue upgrading to new major releases as they become available.

·          In most cases, CM installation is quick and does not require a reboot of the system.  If you are using a Windows 98 or NT4 computer that does not have RAS and/or VPN/PPTP installed already, Connection Manager will install them before you can make a connection.  A reboot is required for installation of RAS and/or VPN/PPTP on Windows 98 and NT 4.
